Basically, flip flops are a sole which is held to the foot by a toe strap at the big toe. There’s no back; there’s no sides. Try them on in the store. Walk around in them. Do they stay on your feet easily? Does the strap rub against your skin or does it firmly hug your toes? Constant rubbing on the skin causes blisters. It’s not fun to have a blister between your toes. If you’re ordering online, how easy or difficult is it to send them back if they don’t fit properly?

Take as much time buying flip flops as you do when getting regular shoes. You might be tempted to get really, really cheap ones. Don’t! Saving a few pennies isn’t worth the pain of developing flat feet, plantar fasciitis, other injuries to your feet, ankles, knees, hips or back – which is what can happen by wearing the wrong kind of flip flops over an extended period of time.
